The five-day virtual Summer Training Institute is designed for those who are in the early stages of working as an independent educational consultant (IEC), and for those who are considering becoming an IEC. Whether you are just beginning to think about joining the profession or have been in business for a year or two and seeing clients on a limited basis, the IECA Summer Institute will help to set you up for success as you learn more about managing and promoting a business, working effectively with students and families, building a knowledge of the wide range of options available to students, and establishing a professional, competent, and ethical practice. It is open to both IECA members and non-members.
The IECA Summer Training Institute involves dozens of IECA faculty and includes a wide variety of interactive sessions to assist you in becoming an efficient and effective independent educational consultant (IEC). Topics explore issues relevant for all new IECs, such as marketing, communications, liability, ethics, and business planning. The institute also offers electives that dive deeper into the various specialty areas: college consulting, K-12 school consulting, graduate school consulting, and therapeutic consulting (for students with mental health, emotional, and/or behavioral issues). Participants will receive all materials for all sessions, regardless of which electives you may choose to attend.
The week consists of both large group sessions and small group discussions, along with many opportunities to network and connect with other participants and faculty from around the world. We also provide time for you to gather informally in small discussion groups during the week so you will have the opportunity to meet and video chat with others, including those close to you regionally.
Cost
$1,195 ($995 for IECA Professional and Associate Members)
The fee includes all materials provided electronically, as well as a large notebook that will be mailed to you 2 weeks prior to the Institute for your use both during the program and long after.
You must submit a $250 deposit with your application using a credit card in the online application system. If your application is approved, you will receive an email with directions to pay the remaining balance due via our online payment system or via a mailed check. If your application is not approved, you will receive a full refund of the $250 deposit.
If you plan to apply for IECA Associate or Professional membership or have a membership application currently pending, you should apply for the Institute now to ensure a space is available for you. If you become an IECA Associate or Professional member prior to the start of the Institute, you will receive the Institute’s discounted member rate of $995. If you have already paid in full at that time, the $200 difference will be refunded or applied to your annual membership dues.
Cancellation & Refund Policy: Please note that IECA must receive written notification of cancellation to: [email protected]. Cancellations received by May 31 will receive a refund of the registration fee paid to date, minus a $35 administrative fee. Cancellations received from June 1 to June 30 will receive a refund of the registration fee paid to date, minus a $200 administrative fee (a portion of our direct administrative costs). Cancellations received after June 30 will not receive a refund.
